| Ballroom Dancing by Bud Walters offers
many types of dance instruction. Please take a look at each below
to learn a little more about all of your options.
Modified slow- One of the more popular dances
and considered to be the easiest to learn. Bud can make this dance
look much better with proper dance position and some graceful moves
instead of “ holding on and rocking back and forth.”
At times song selections can be too long. 2 1/2 to 3 minutes are
ample. At Last “ by Etta James and “ Unforgettable”
by Nat King Cole are popular choices for music selections. Recommended
2-3 lessons average.
Waltz- A more formal, slow, elegant ballroom dance
in ¾ time. Bud recommends this to his couples. It is an easy
graceful dance to learn that moves around the floor. Some popular
music choices are “Fascination” by Nat King Cole and
“ Moon River” by Andy Williams. Think Prince Charming
and Cinderella. Recommended 4-5 lessons average.
Swing/ Jitterbug- An up tempo fun dance involving
a lot of movement and under arm turns. This is not to be confused
with the highly energetic Swing of 2003, danced to bands like “Big
Bad Vodoo Daddy and “Squirrel Nuts Zippers”. Bud teaches
a more relaxed Swing that can be done to songs like “The way
You Look Tonight” by Frank Sinatra or Harry Connick Jr. Recommended
5-6 lessons average.
Foxtrot- A classic popular dance. With practice
the Foxtrot is done with grace and ease as you move around the floor.
The Foxtrot can be danced to a large variety of rhythm styles ranging
from medium to fast tempos. Popular song selections “The Best
is yet To Come” and “Fly Me To The Moon”, by Frank
Sinatra
And “Cheek to Cheek’ by Doris Day.. Recommended 5-6
lessons average.
Latin Styles- Latin music is popular too! These
dances can be a little more difficult to learn and will involve
more time. If you want something different try a slow sensual Rhumba
or a rhythmic, flirty Cha-Cha or Salsa. Some students have even
braved a dramatic Tango.
Remember: Proper dance shoes are important. Gym
shoes ARE NOT recommended. Leather soled shoes are preferred. Women
should learn to dance in shoes that would be comparable to what
they will wear for their wedding.
